The Story Behind the Magpie Café
The Magpie Café came about because we wanted visitors to the
Tanunda Show to have a place where they could eat and drink
really good Barossa food and wine. The donation of goods and
time from local businesses and individuals has been terrific.
The food on the menu is all sourced from the Barossa Valley,
including meats, smallgoods, cheese, bread, chutneys and mustard
from an array of local producers and freshly picked vegetables
and salad greens from
Krondorf Gardeners.
Kate Parkin has donated her time and expertise putting the
platters together.
Northland Packaging
have
shown ongoing generosity by donating napkins, cups and pie tins.
The bread rolls and streuselkuchen (german cake) are baked in a
wood fired oven at the
Apex
Bakery in
Tanunda. The pastry and filling for the
“Hutton Vale” lamb
pies has been made by
William
and Claire Wood from
Carême Pastry in
Tanunda and students from
Murray TAFE have put
them together under the guidance of
Jan Koerner.
Vince Trotta
is a local chef who has been with us for five years now and he
does a great job in the kitchen.
All the energetic and enthusiastic kitchen, bar and wait staff
are volunteers. Some of them are wine and food students from
TAFE and the rest are just very good people.
Lindi Meyer, who is
renowned for her front of house talent, keeps everything running
smoothly.
Barossa Wine Show
trophy winning wines have been donated by local winemakers and
we appreciate their continued and generous support. Thanks also
to Andy Harmann and the
Tanunda Football Club.
Monjava Coffee
has been supporting us for many years with their machines and
great coffee.
Please enjoy your lunch knowing that you too are helping to
preserve an important Barossa tradition.
